Innovative intelligence

Why?

Innovative Intelligence builds on Schumpeter’s (1934) idea about innovation resulting from combinations of different kinds of existing knowledge. This is a very valuable activity to practice in the divergent phase as the students get to train their innovation skills.

How?

The teacher arranges the students in groups and hands out a specific word on a sheet of paper and a pair of scissors to each group. The students cut out the letters of the word and use them to construct as many new words as possible.

Tips

Another option is to challenge the students to invent as many new uses as possible for a sheet of paper (e.g. a hat or a paper airplane).
