'YES and...'

Why?

This exercise is about changing the attitude of the students in order to prepare them for the divergent phase, where open-mindedness and the act of being able to build upon the ideas of others are important capabilities.

How?

The students solve a smaller imaginary assignment, such as arranging a wedding, making a movie about dinosaurs or something completely different. However, there is one important rule. The students have to say ‘YES and…’ to absolutely everything as they solve this task.

Tips

The teacher hands out a card from the Pictionary board game to each student group (the Danish counterpart to this game is ‘Tegn og Gæt’). Each team is then challenged to use all five words on the card while solving the tasks of, for example, arranging a wedding. Another option is to use picture cards or a bag with different objects that the students have to use (see Definition bag).
